Bonsai Golf (Magic Leap)

In the early days of mixed reality, I see it as supplemental entertainment; its like playing a board game while watching a movie. Bonsai Golf is a micro golf experience similar to flicking a marble around the base of bonsai trees. 18 levels will be provided but the goal is to open a marketplace where users can buy and sell levels they create with the provided assets and tools. The game is meant to be played on a table top and users are encouraged to add in physical objects to challenge their friends locally or online.

Crystal Flux

Crystal Flux is a rhythm snowboarding shooter that rewards player for picking up orbs in sync with the music. The 12 track original score was written alongside development to blend art style and drive gameplay. Levels are designed by hand with procedural obstacles to provide a unique experience each time. The game uses creative physical forces to stay exciting while allowing players to anticipate momentum.

There were many technical challenges from getting a physics based character doing flips and always landing on her feet to the art and lighting that changes depending upon player performance. Some of the techniques are highlighted on the previous 'tech' section. 

Bonsai Golf Coral

Bonsai Golf Coral is a fully 3d physics enabled golf game that focuses on orb collecting on top of reaching the hole. Getting to the final hole of each level is still the goal but points are totaled based upon how many orbs the player collects along the way.

Realistic caustics of the water were baked in Maya as textures and cycled through in code. Buoyancy of the ball deteriorates after each putt to give the sense of water while still remaining grounded. 

Bonsai Golf

I wanted to make a casual and calming mini golf game that could be played one handed while standing on a bus or drifting off to sleep. Bonsai Golf used tree roots as organic looking obstacles with colorful 3D visuals. Lighting guides the player to the hole in a dark and magical atmosphere.  
 
I used a 3rd party physics engine that I configured to work with Windows Phone 7. A content importer was needed to use per-poly collision of the landscape and trees. Since there was only a single light source and one dynamic object, the ball's shadow was an attached mesh that stretched and rotated depending on the ball's position.
